The Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt is one of the cheapest ways into a numeric-print Margiela top at retail-replica level: $22.09 USD against a listed $25.39, SKU 7702011309, offered in black and white across S to XL. Our desk ordered a size L and treated it like any other apparel parcel — QC images before shipment, bench measurements on arrival, then three wear sessions and two washes.
What we ordered
- Listing: Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt: A Classic, Best-Selling Collection, SKU 7702011309, marked in stock at $22.09 (from $25.39).
- Stated spec: combed cotton main fabric, printed letter motif across two colourways, short sleeves, crew neck, loose cut, 250–300 gsm fabric weight band, 2024 summer release.
- Sizes on offer: S, M, L, XL. We could only bench-test the size L we received.
The first gate: the back-collar stitch line
MM6 sets its numeric-print tees apart with a horizontal white stitch line at the back of the collar — the brand's own product pages name it as the discreet signature of the line, alongside the numeric label. That detail is small, cheap to omit and easy to fake badly, so we asked for close-ups of the collar interior before agreeing to shipment. We also requested the print edge at raking light, the neck rib, and the care label.
All four images came back usable, so the parcel shipped. The stitch line is present and even, with no skipped stitches where the collar meets the back panel. On our sample the neck rib is a single-fold band rather than the double-needle finish you would see on a heavier athletic tee, which fits the price point.
Bench measurements
| Check | Our size L sample | Listing or brand reference |
|---|---|---|
| Garment weight | 254 g on a 0.5 g-resolution scale | Listed band 250–300 gsm; our panel area works out at roughly 270 gsm |
| Chest, flat | 58 cm pit-to-pit (≈116 cm around) | Listing describes a loose cut; no per-size chart published in the snapshot |
| Body length | 71 cm from high-point shoulder | No published figure for this listing |
| Back-collar stitch line | Present, even spacing | Named by MM6 as the line's signature detail |
The weight lands comfortably inside the advertised 250–300 gsm window and reads as a genuine midweight jersey, not the papery single-knit that shows up at this price. The chest figure is the interesting number: 116 cm of circumference on a garment labelled L is loose on most bodies, which matches the listing's description and the brand's own "oversized fit" language for numeric-print MM6 tees.
Wearing it: creasing, collar and comfort
Our byline protocol is three sessions of two hours or more, indoors and out. The fabric drapes without clinging, the print sits flat enough that you do not feel the ink against the chest, and the collar held its shape across all three sessions with no roll-out at the front. Creasing at the elbows and hem relaxed out on the hanger overnight. The cotton has no measurable stretch and does not need any.
Two 30 °C washes
Apparel is washed twice at 30 °C before our second fit note. The numeric print came through both cycles without cracking, edge lift or visible fade; it softened slightly, which is normal for a plastisol-style print and not a defect at this stage. Body length moved by half a centimetre between pre- and post-wash measurements, inside our repeat-measurement error, so we are not calling it shrinkage. Colour fastness looked fine — nothing transferred to the white load.
Sizing: why the label alone is not enough
This is where we would slow any buyer down. Public accounts of MM6 and Margiela top sizing disagree with each other, and none of them describe this exact listing. The most specific advice we found comes from a Supreme x MM6 thread:
Get a size small if you're 5'8" and have a slim build. Preme shirts fit oversized now. Especially in the torso.
A separate buyer on r/MaisonMargiela reported the opposite frustration — their true size was too narrow and one size up too long. Retailers selling comparable MM6 numeric tees advise taking your normal size, and the brand's own published conversion table maps IT 46 to S, 48 to M, 50 to L and 52 to XL. A buyer-side rule of thumb puts a Margiela "40" near a Medium. Those references describe other Margiela tops, so they are a cross-check, not an answer.
What we can say from the bench: a size L is genuinely loose, so a slim build wanting a clean shoulder line should not assume L is safe. Request chest and length figures for the size you intend to buy before paying.
Where the $22.09 sits
For the money, the fabric weight, stitch-line detail and print integrity after two washes are the parts that hold up. The open items are the ones a photo cannot settle: how this cut scales through S, M and XL, and whether the seller's own chart lines up with what arrives. Ask first, then buy.
