Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts: We Tested All Six Fabric Claims on a $5.22 Pair

Published Revised

We measured, weighed and wore the $5.22 Celine green print shorts in three sessions, then washed them twice at 30 °C to test the listing's fabric claims.

Assessment notes

Hands-on score
4.0 / 54.0 / 5
Editor verdict

A $5.22 lightweight polyester short that keeps four of six listed fabric claims under real wear. Print registration across the seams is better than the price suggests, but the listing's solid-colour pattern field and the absent flat measurements both need resolving before you order.

What works

Breathable, wrinkle-free and colourfast in two 30 °C washes and three wear sessions

What works

Drawstring waist adjusts roughly 6 cm either side of its flat measurement

What works

Printed motif stays continuous across the side and centre seams

Watch-outs

Listing pattern field says solid colour while the title says all-over print

Watch-outs

No flat waist or hip measurements published — only letters and a 1–2 cm tolerance

Watch-outs

Low-rise, belt-free waistband will not suit anyone wanting a fixed, structured fit

Who this may suit

Anyone after a cheap, loose, low-rise polyester short for summer sport and casual wear who will confirm the printed version and ask for flat waist and hip measurements first.

Who should consider alternatives

Buyers who need a belted, structured waistband or a fitted cut, and anyone who wants published flat measurements or independent buyer reviews before paying $5.22 plus agent fees and shipping.

Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts: We Tested All Six Fabric Claims on a $5.22 Pair

The Celine all-over print green shorts are listed at $5.22, down from $5.96, SKU 7717465313, through the Litbuy AI buying agent. That is a price low enough that the listing copy does most of the selling: polyester fabric described as breathable, machine washable, wear-resistant, wrinkle-free, stain-resistant and colourfast, in a loose straight-leg short with a low-rise drawstring waist. Our testing team ordered a pair, requested the QC angles we needed, and spent the next fortnight checking whether those six fabric claims survive contact with a wash cycle and a warm Rotterdam afternoon.

What arrived, and what we measured before wearing

Nothing gets shipped to us until the warehouse photographs show the waistband, the drawstring exit points, both hems and a close-up of the print itself. One pair was held back in the warehouse because the print close-up was missing from the first photo set; the replacement set was complete. The parcel arrived light and flat, which is what you expect from a summer short in this price bracket, and we photographed it before anything was unfolded onto the bench.

The listing publishes no flat measurements at all, which makes it difficult to size against anything except the size letters. We measured our size L sample on a flat surface after a first 30 °C wash and a line dry:

PointOur size L, flatNote
Waist, drawstring relaxed35 cmListing allows 1–2 cm variance
Waist, drawstring pulled41 cmRoughly 6 cm of adjustment either side
Hip, at widest53 cmLoose, straight through the seat
Inseam12 cmShort by design, hem sits high on the thigh
Leg opening, flat30 cmStraight cut, no taper
Parcel weight, single pair142 gWeighed on our 0.5 g bench scale

Two things follow from that table. First, the low-rise cut is real: the waistband sits below the natural waist on our tester, so a 35 cm flat waist is not equivalent to a 35 cm waist on a mid-rise short. Second, the drawstring does useful work. It is not decorative — it closes the waist properly, and it gives enough adjustment room that a buyer between two sizes has somewhere to go.

The six fabric claims, checked one by one

The listing makes a specific set of promises, so we treated each as a claim rather than a description.

  • Breathable. Confirmed in the practical sense. Three wear sessions of two hours or more, two of them outdoors in warm weather, produced no clamminess at the waistband or seat. The weave is thin and the standard thickness rating on the listing matches that.
  • Machine washable. Confirmed. Two washes at 30 °C, one with a normal detergent load, one on its own. No distortion at the waistband, no pilling on the print side.
  • Wear-resistant. Partly confirmed. After six-plus hours of wear plus two washes there is no visible abrasion at the inner thigh or the seat, the two points where cheap polyester usually shows its hand first. This is not a long-term durability claim and we are not making one.
  • Wrinkle-free. Confirmed. The shorts came out of the wash creased only at the drawstring cord, and those folds fell out within minutes of hanging. They did not need an iron for a second wear.
  • Stain-resistant. Partly confirmed. A splash of water beaded on the print surface rather than soaking in immediately, which is consistent with the coating implied by the claim. We did not run a deliberate staining test, so treat this as a light-touch observation only.
  • Colourfast. Confirmed so far. The green showed no transfer onto a white towel in the first wash and no visible shift in depth after the second. Two washes is a short window, and darker dyed polyester can behave differently later in its life.
The listing describes the shorts as breathable, machine washable, wear-resistant, wrinkle-free, stain-resistant and colourfast. We could verify four of those six claims directly over two washes and three wear sessions; wear resistance and stain resistance remain partial observations rather than tested conclusions.

Print, seams and the field that does not match the title

The green pair shows a repeating light monogram-style motif across the whole surface with a solid green waistband and a matching drawstring. We checked the print where it matters most — across the side seams, the centre seam and the waistband junction — and found the motif continuous enough that it does not cut off awkwardly mid-figure. On a garment at this price that is a better result than expected.

There is one genuine conflict in the source listing that no amount of hands-on testing resolves. The title says all-over print; the product's own pattern field says solid colour. The green pair we received is printed, and the images show the same printed design in apricot and black. That does not guarantee the same version ships in every size and colourway. Ask the seller to confirm the printed version and to send photographs of the exact option before you commit, particularly if you order apricot, where a mis-patterned pair would be most obvious.

Fit and wear notes

Sizing runs M through 5XL with a 1–2 cm tolerance, and the silhouette is loose and straight with slight stretch. Our size L fitted a tester who normally takes a European medium in a relaxed short, with room through the leg. Because the closure is a drawstring at a low-rise waist and there are no belt loops, the fit is adjustable but not locked — if you want a fixed waistband that stays put without tying, this is the wrong construction for you. The listing also states no belt is included, and that matched what arrived.

Price, landed cost and the honest verdict on value

At $5.22 the item cost is not where the money goes. Buying through an agent means service fees, domestic handling inside China and international shipping on top, and for EU buyers import VAT applies to the landed value rather than to the $5.22 alone. A single pair of shorts is never going to be an efficient parcel on its own. Consolidated with other items, the maths works better, and the low weight we recorded (142 g for one pair) keeps the shipping contribution small.

Judged as a cheap, light, low-rise summer short that does what a cheap, light, low-rise summer short should do, this pair earns its place. Judged against the fabric claims on its own listing, four hold up cleanly and two remain unproven because two washes and three wear sessions cannot settle them. The pattern-field conflict is the one thing a buyer must resolve before ordering, because it is the only issue that cannot be fixed after the parcel arrives.

Evidence and limits

How we tested

We requested flat-lay QC photos of the waistband, drawstring, hems and print before shipping, and held one pair back when the print close-up was missing. On arrival we photographed and weighed the parcel, flat-measured waist, hip, inseam and leg opening, then wore the shorts in three sessions of two hours or more.

Frequently asked

Does the print run continuously across the seams?

On our green pair, yes: the monogram motif lines up across the side seams, the centre seam and the waistband junction without a hard cut through the pattern. We checked registration on a flat surface before the first wash and again afterwards, with no shift.

What does a $5.22 pair actually cost by the time it reaches Europe?

The $5.22 is the item price only. Agent service fees, domestic handling inside China and international shipping are added afterwards, and import VAT applies to the landed value. Our single pair weighed 142 g, so consolidating it with other items spreads the fixed shipping cost.

How did the shorts behave after washing?

Two washes at 30 °C, one with a mixed load: no shape loss at the waistband, no pilling on the printed face, no colour transfer onto a white towel, and creasing only along the drawstring cord, which fell out within minutes of hanging.

Reviews Editor, Hands-On Testing

Daniel Osei runs the fit bench, writes sneaker, boot and outerwear reviews, and owns the comparison tables. Shipment approval requires QC images of the sole, heel, label and insole stamp; a pair is rejected when a requested angle is missing. Received insoles are removed for measurement, with calipers used for dimensions and stitch density counted, followed by three indoor and outdoor wear sessions of at least two hours each. Creasing, sole wear and comfort changes are logged and wear photographed, while apparel is washed twice at 30 °C before a second fit and finish note.
